You will receive personal attention at SHC Radiology Services.
Basic X-ray procedures require no preparation. The technologist will take
special care to ensure a safe X-ray exam by providing lead shielding for the
thyroid, abdomen and pelvis when images of those areas are not required.
If there is any possibility that you may be pregnant,
it is essential that you inform the technologist before the X-ray is taken.
Please be aware that not all radiographic exams take the same amount of
time. Most exams can be completed in 15 minutes but the time required for
each exam depends on the type of injury, the number of procedures requested,
and the patient's condition.
After the X-ray procedure the
radiograph(s) will be returned to your SHC practitioner for evaluation. The
radiologist will read the X- rays the following business day and if there
are any changes in the interpretation, your SHC health care provider will
contact you.
Registered Radiologic Technologists, (RTs), also known as
Radiographers or X-ray Techs, are educated in the field of Radiography.
Technologists are qualified in the safe and effective application of X-rays
for medical purposes. Each SHC Technologist has successfully passed the
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, registry exam and is licensed
by the Virginia Board of Medicine. The American Society of Radiologic
Technologists, ASRT, supports Technologists through continuing education
programs and publications.
