When and why Schiffert Health Center Holds Schedules
If your schedule is on hold, it is probably due to one of the following
reason:
- Your Immunization History Form is INCOMPLETE - "Student
Health Holds"
- You resigned from school for medical reasons - "Registrar-Student
Health Hold"
- Some other department has issued the block, in which case SHC can't
help you resolve the issue.
Schiffert Health Center issues this block to students who have INCOMPLETE
Immunization History
Forms. The hold is mandatory. The Commonwealth of Virginia Code states:
23-7.5 Health histories required; immunizations. -No full-time student
shall be enrolled for the first time in any four-year, public institution
of higher education in this Commonwealth unless he has furnished, before
the beginning of the second semester or quarter of enrollment, a immunization
history consistent with guidelines adopted by each institution's board
of visitors, pursuant to the requirements of this section. Any student
who fails to furnish the history will not be eligible for registration
for the second semester or quarter. Any student who objects on religious
grounds shall be exempt from the immunization history requirement set forth in
this section. (A copy of the complete law can be accessed at

Schiffert Health Center issues Medical Holds, and Re-Admissions, for
Medical/Psychiatric Resignations. In order to remove the hold, the student
must provide a letter from the professional (e.g. a psychiatrist, counselor,
clinical psychologist, physician, etc.), who is treating him/her for the
medical or psychiatric condition. The letter must support readmission to
the university. A re-admission interview by the SHC Health Evaluating Team
is required prior to the removal of the hold. For further information contact
Phyllis Smith (540-231-5313) or smithpj@vt.edu.
