Eligibility
Who is eligible for service?
Only VT students, who have paid the SHC Health Fee are eligible to use SHC. Spouses, family members, faculty, and staff are not eligible for treatment at SHC.
You have automatically paid the SHC Health Fee (included in the University's Comprehensive Fee) if you are a registered full-time student. If you are a part-time student you must make arrangements through Student Accounts to pay the SHC Health Fee before the semester begins. With the exception of selected services your visits to SHC are pre-paid.
During summer school we will treat you on a "fee for services" basis, if you were a student and paid the health fee in the previous spring session and will be a student and paying the health fee in the following fall session.
Part time students may pay for services on a fee for service basis. These "fee for service" charges will be billed through the Accounts Receivable Office.
Currently, SHC does not accept credit cards and prefers that all payments be sent to Accounts Receivable for collection. If you want a copy of your Medical Record, you need to submit to Schiffert Health Center a check for $10.00 AND your signed "Release of Information Form".
Note for graduate students
GRADUATE STUDENTS, SUMMER SCHOOL, AND HEALTH CENTER SERVICES
Please be aware of the following information regarding student health services during the summer. The Schiffert Health Center delivers services through a student health fee (which is included in the Comprehensive Fee) when tuition is paid each semester/summer session.
During the summer graduate students who are not enrolled in classes but are required to remain on campus as a part of their graduate program must pay the summer student health fee ($72.50 per summer session) to be eligible for services at the Health Center. You must provide a letter from your Department Head stating you are required to be on campus during the summer working on research for your thesis or dissertation. The health fee is not automatically added to your Bursar account and should be paid at the Schiffert Health Center with a check or cash if you wish to be seen at the Health Center.
Please note that if you are covered by the Virginia Tech Student Health Insurance offered through the University's Risk Management Department, some co-pays for outside provider referrals are reduced when the referral is made by SHC.
