“A Walk Down Recovery Lane" Kelsey Muffler - a current VT senior, tells a touching, honest, and positive story about her recovery from an eating disorder. Along with the personal account of her journey Kelsey discusses: myths about eating disorders, how to help a friend or family member, different types of recovery, resources at Virginia Tech, and prevention of eating disorders. This is a great opportunity to explore the complexities of body image issues with your group. Suitable for small or large groups in a variety of settings, and available throughout the semester. "Gene Jeans Drive" MARCH 20-22 - Noon-3PM - Many people are familiar with the fact that psychological, interpersonal and social factors contribute to eating disorders. However, there are even biological and genetic factors that may play a part. Help raise awareness about the genetic component and other factors related to eating disorders and body image by donating clean, usable, jeans to the Fitness and Nutrition Club’s “Gene” Jeans Drive. Jeans will be collected by the Deets porch in front of D2 Dining Hall. Jeans will be donated to various women’s organization in the NRV. Sponsored by Fitness and Nutrition Club. |

Eating Disorders Treatment and Prevention Update 8:00 AM until 9:00 AM - in 198 RecSports McComas by Deborah Russo, Psy.D- Licensed Clinical Psychologist from the Remuda Ranch Treatment Center. Dr. Russo has extensive eating disorders experience in areas that include program development, teaching, training, and research. This presentation is intended for medical professionals, counselors, and those that work in nutrition/health fields. She will review up-to-date information and research informing our knowledge base, and more effectively treating the spectrum of eating disorders. The underpinnings of the etiology of eating disorders such as trait patterns and common co-morbid diagnosis will be explored. Effective treatment strategies and tools for professionals to work together and assist this population will be provided. Detecting signs of potential eating disorders and ways to help students receive the help they need will be emphasized.provided. |

Disorderly Culture: Battling the Forces that Feed Eating Disorders 1:15 PM until 2:15 PM in Donaldson-Brown Graduate Life Center Auditorium by Deborah Russo, Psy.D- Licensed Clinical Psychologist from the Remuda Ranch Treatment Center. This presentation is intended for general audiences and will discuss body image, culture, food and fantasy, causes of eating disorders, symptoms, and complications. In addition, Dr. Russo will discuss how to help a friend; high risk groups; and proactive approaches to prevention on campus. |

Strength Training for Women 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in McComas weight room. Female personal trainers will be assisting women who want to learn how to start lifting, use weight machines, and incorporate weights into their workout routines. Open to all VT female students, faculty, and staff. |
